Counselling & Psychotherapy in Solihull

Welcome to Insight Counselling & Psychotherapy

Are you struggling to understand your feelings and thoughts? Are you unable to express yourself and what it is you are experiencing?

You are not alone

Facing challenging situations is part of being a human. This is the case even more so in the increasingly demanding world. There is a huge benefit in finding a private and trusting environment to explore and process your struggles.

The latest research has demonstrated that over time the suppressing (pushing away) of thoughts and emotions takes its toll on us physically. At times manifesting as physical illness.

The age old adages of ‘bottle it up’ and ‘crack on’ simply are not effective. Vulnerability and Openness are recognised as the new courage muscles.

The benefits of effective counselling are vast. The increase in self-knowledge and self-awareness can produce positive change in both our internal and external worlds. Having the freedom to open up in a confidential and trusting environment helps us make sense and process challenging experiences.

Improved emotional intelligence, emotional regulation and resilience can also be the results of a committed and successful journey into therapy.

Speak in confidence

At Insight Counselling and Psychotherapy, I work across various therapeutic modalities and I offer the support and safety to enable you to make sense of the situation you are struggling with. Together we can talk about, explore and process what you're experiencing, and collaboratively we can identify the goals and outcomes which you would like to achieve.

Therapeutic modalities

I work mainly in an integrated fashion, this means I incorporate different modalities into my practice. Some of the therapies I use are: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Person-Centred, Gestalt, Psychodynamic, Transactional Analysis and Mindfulness. I also incorporate the latest research from Neuroscience and Psycho-education.

Make better, healthier new choices

I offer in-person at my Solihull-based practice room.

I also offer online and telephone sessions.

I work with adults (age 18 and above).

Frequently asked questions

What should I expect from therapy?

How we work together depends on what you hope to gain from therapy and your specific needs. It's normal to feel nervous or apprehensive about starting counselling, especially if it's your first time.

Our initial FREE 20-minute consultation is an excellent opportunity to address any uncertainties. You may seek therapy to explore your thoughts and feelings around current issues, or you may want to explore past difficulties.

You may be looking to focus on learning coping skills and strategies to improve resilience and well-being in your life. Whatever your needs, I tailor our sessions specifically to you.

How does therapy work?

Through a combination of your willingness and effort, our relationship as therapist and client works on mutual respect that supports learning and growth. As your therapist, I guide you through counselling as we explore and identify your challenges to find ways to bring about positive change and achieve your goals.

How do I pay?

You can pay via the payment app SUM UP, which is emailed to you the day before your session begins.

How do I check if a therapist is a qualified professional?

Therapists need to be suitably qualified and registered members of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) or a UKCP (United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapists) member or National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society (NCPS).

As professional bodies, BACP, UKCP and NCPS ensure that all members meet the professional standards, ethics and qualifications required to practise and keep skills up to date through continuing professional development (CPD).

How long will therapy take?

I offer open-ended sessions and review regularly. There is no specific time frame when working on personal development and growth. On average, many people undergo counselling for a minimum of 8-12 sessions.

What can I hope to achieve in therapy?

There are many benefits to engaging in therapy, including gaining a better understanding of yourself, figuring out life goals and prospects, improving personal relationships, developing coping skills, enhancing problem-solving abilities, making positive changes to problem behaviours, changing negative thought patterns to boosting self-esteem and empowering lasting change.

How do I make a booking?

Please email me at info@scottmottram.co.uk or call me on 07467 865934. I work flexible hours, so we can discuss availability to book an initial consultation at a mutually convenient time. You can visit me at my Solihull practice room or book online or via telephone.

Are sessions confidential?

Our sessions are confidential and I do not routinely share information about you, other than anonymously, as part of my professional development. There are some exceptions to this, such as if I was required to by law or had serious concerns about your safety or someone else's safety.
